Knocked Out Tooth
At the office of Chris Johns, DDS, we will immediately take care of our patients who are experiencing the painful dental emergency caused by a knocked out tooth.
If your tooth has been knocked out, you need to act quickly to save your tooth and preserve your future oral health!
According to the American Association Of Endodontists (AAE), when you've had a tooth knocked out, do the following:
- Carefully pick up your tooth by the crown, not by the root.
- If your tooth is dirty, rinse it gently with water (no soap or scrubbing!)
- Gently push the tooth back into its socket if possible, holding the tooth in place with your finger or by carefully closing your mouth.
- Keep your tooth from drying out. If you can't replace your tooth in its socket, place in your mouth between your teeth and the inside of your cheek to keep it moist.
- See an emergency dentist within 30 minutes of having your tooth knocked out.
Teeth may be very strong, but they can still chip, break or crack. Remember, treating a broken tooth at home is not an option; you need to see Dr. Johns as soon as possible!
Broken Dental Filling
As advanced as modern dentistry is, broken fillings can still happen. The most important thing to remember is not to delay seeing Dr. Johns to get treatment for a broken filling. Many teeth can start out with a small break that would only need a filling, but the longer treatment is delayed, the bigger the problem becomes.
A dental abscess is an infection in your teeth or gums. Badly infected teeth can jeopardize the health of your entire mouth and your overall wellness. If treated immediately, these infections are easy to recover from and can be prevented from causing lasting damage to your mouth. After treatment, Dr. Johns will likely prescribe an antibiotic to treat your dental abscess and prevent future complications.
Are you experiencing tooth pain? Does it hurt to chew or when air touches your tooth?
If you are suffering with a persistent toothache, call Dr. Johns to schedule an exam. During your appointment, Dr. Johns will likely x-ray your tooth to help determine if a cavity, crack, abscess or other problem is causing your pain before discussing your dental treatment options with you.
The first few moments after an oral accident are vital in determining if your recovery will go smoothly. Dental trauma can happen due to motor vehicle accidents, falls, sports injuries or physical altercations.
